The Utilization of Traditional Saudi Dress Ornamentation in the Development of Contemporary Women’s Caftan Designs

The research aims to leverage the decorative richness of Saudi folk costumes to create contemporary designs for women's kaftans, thereby enhancing national identity within the fashion industry. The research problem centers on how to merge the authenticity of traditional patterns from various regions of the Kingdom with modern kaftan designs that cater to the tastes of contemporary women. The study adopted a descriptive-analytical approach to examine the decorative motifs and a quasi-experimental approach to create eleven innovative designs. Two surveys were conducted to gather feedback from both specialists and consumers. The results from the specialists revealed that Design (4) ranked first with a quality coefficient of 93.4, followed by Design (10) in second place (92.4), Design (11) third (91), Design (7) fourth (90.4), and Design (3) fifth (90). Regarding consumer opinions, Design (4) also ranked first with a quality coefficient of 89.2, followed by Design (7) second (88.6), Design (3) third (88.4), Design (11) fourth (87.4), and Design (10) fifth (86.4). The study concludes that Saudi heritage possesses high flexibility for modernization and development, and recommends supporting local designers in drawing inspiration from national identity in alignment with Saudi Vision 2030.
